The King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, will offer a military base to the United States. This base, according to the Spanish newspaper El Español that made the revelation, will be located in the town of Alcazarguir
In fact, the Spanish media, ElEspanol.com, just revealed on Sunday July 5 that Morocco has decided to offer a military base to the United States. According to the Spanish media, this base will be located in the Alcazarguir naval enclave. Still according to the same source, this base will replace the Rota base, previously used by US troops after an agreement signed between Spain and the United States in 1988.
The US military base has a deadline of 2021 on Spanish soil. But its renewal, which must imperatively pass through the Spanish Congress , runs the risk of encountering frontal opposition from parliamentary groups that don’t digest the US military presence on Spanish soil, a sovereign country.
The Spanish media report that the Alcazarguir military base was erected in 2008 and was offered to the Americans from that date. However, the latter had rejected it, believing that the base was not made for large-scale operations, including ships and aircraft carriers.
Since then, the Moroccan government has improved the base, which is now equipped with submarines. “In addition, its size will increase four times more than its current size,” reports El Español. The media adds that the Americans have also reviewed it and equipped it with a first radar that can detect any type of maritime targets from space.
