Army and Police personnel, deployed in the municipality of Convencion, in Catatumbo, were attacked from one of the hills near the town. The harassment took place around 6:40 a.m. this Thursday, and was attributed to snipers from the illegal armed group ELN.
This was explained by Colonel Carlos Martínez Rodríguez, commander of the Norte de Santander Police Department. “The staff reacted appropriately according to established protocols, leaving the staff without incident,” said the officer.
Martínez also lamented the death of a canine alongside members of the public force in this region for six years. “They took revenge by shooting at the canine that accompanied the personnel in surveillance activities, sharing patrols, helping to raise the alarm at the station. Tigre was very loved by the community and local children, so his death caused sadness ”.
