Venezuela captured members of the Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel amid the Bolivarian Shield operations in a region bordering Colombia, a senior military official Remigio Ceballos Ichaso said on Friday, days after the armed forces confronted Colombian irregular groups.
On March 21, the Venezuelan armed forces launched an offensive against some so-called Colombian armed groups, in the town of La Victoria, Apure state and in other areas near the border. ” They came from there and well, they are at the order of justice ”, said the head of the Strategic Operational Command of the Venezuelan armed force, Remigio Ceballos, in a telephone contact with state television.
The official reported that members of the drug trafficking cartel were brought to the courts. Ceballos added that some aircraft that were used for drug trafficking were detected.
The Colombian government has said that the Sinaloa Cartel is the most active in drug trafficking in Colombia with links in different regions of the country with the National Liberation Army (ELN), the FARC dissidents and the Gulf Clan.
