Russia warns of the risk of a new illegal incursion into Venezuela, led by the United States, from the neighboring country, Colombia.
“His (US) presence in the immediate proximity of Venezuela is a sign that a new illegal incursion into the country (Venezuela) can be carried out at any time,” said the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajárova on Thursday. .
On May 3, the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) of Venezuela neutralized an attempted maritime incursion, led by US President Donald Trump, with the complicity of his Colombian counterpart, Iván Duque, to “assassinate” the Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
During a press conference, the Russian diplomat recalled the transfer of US military forces to Colombia, according to the statements of the head of the US Southern Command, Craig Faller, “will be carried out to promote certain ideals and values.”
Likewise, Zajárova has highlighted the eventual mission of these American military personnel, who have experience of the struggle in Afghanistan, at the present juncture and in those latitudes. “It is the first time that these specialists arrive in Latin America,” he said, later adding: “It is difficult to believe that they are in charge of security assistance, as announced.”
At another point in her remarks, the Russian spokeswoman has asked Washington to end its policy of economic intimidation against Caracas, stressing that Russia condemns that illegal practice.
Zajárova has also referred to warnings and threats by the US Administration, chaired by Donald Trump, to the Governments of other countries against any help in supplying Iranian fuel to Venezuela, and has declared that such initiatives “exceed all limits”.
Despite all the threatening rhetoric from Trump, Iran has sent five tankers with a load of almost 1.53 million barrels of fuel, with the aim of filling the deficiencies in this area due to US sanctions.
