A serious humanitarian crisis is registered in Chocó department and a big part of the Pacific coast due to permanent confrontations between armed groups that operate in the area.
The alerts had been on for months. The Ombudsman’s Office had been warning that the war in Chocó was going to escalate and that the communities were in danger. Today, the armed groups have the civilian population on the ropes.
However, this isn’t the only area affected. Since August 16, the same groups have faced each other in the Medio and Bajo San Juan, limits between Chocó and Valle del Cauca.
The Church and the communities ask the Government and the international community not to forget the Pacific, where war does not stop and peace is just a wish and an unfulfilled promise
