Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Foreign Minister , Jorge Arreaza, called for dialogue and a ceasefire in the face of the recent escalation of hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan and expressed his solidarity with the victims and wounded after the recent clashes.

During his virtual speech at the Ministerial Meeting of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM), held this Friday, October 9, the head of Venezuelan diplomacy highlighted this exhortation is made in accordance with the recent appeals of the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and “taking into account the historical role that our Movement has played as an anti-war and peace-loving force.”

In this sense, Venezuela, as a country that promotes peace diplomacy, makes “a call for detente, political dialogue and an immediate cease-fire, online”, and also “we also vote in favor of the achievement of a peaceful, negotiated and lasting solution between the parties, on the framework of the norms of international law, the provisions of the Charter and the relevant UN resolutions, while reaffirming our support for the efforts made by the Group of Minsk in that sense ”, highlighted Arreaza.

Nagorno Karabakh continues to be the epicenter of warfare between Armenia and Azerbaijan since the ancient conflict between the two ethnic groups erupted with new force on September 27. Both countries accuse each other of the escalation and have suffered losses both in soldiers and among the civilian population.
