To the San José de Popayán University Hospital, 4 of 8 wounded by the explosion of a minefield, installed by alleged guerrillas of the ELN National Liberation Army near El Plateado village, rural area of Algeria, southern Cauca.
“Victims of antipersonnel mines with loss of soft tissue and some with loss of limb. They’re stable and undergoing surgical management for the moment, ”informed Óscar Fernando Rosero, a doctor at the health center.
According to authorities, eight injured are men who are part of El Plateado community.
“They fell into a minefield that had been placed by the FARC or ELN dissidents, which operate in the area. Unfortunately we had these news, there are three people who have had their limbs amputated, ”said General Marco Vinicio Mayorga, commander of the Army’s Third Division.
Human rights defenders called for a ceasefire in the area to prevent more people from dying in the midst of these confrontations.
