Canada Government denied visa to Venezuelan athlete Alejandra Benitez who was going to participate in Montreal Sabre Grand Prix 2020, thus putting her classification at 2020 Olympic Games at serious risk.

Venezuelan fencer has been junior world champion, multiple Bolivarian, South American, Central American and Caribbean medalist, three times Pan American runner-up and has competed in several Olympics.

Benítez also won bronze medal at 2019 Pan American Games in Lima.

It should be noted Alejandra was going to participate in the Grand Prix with a view to achieving qualifying points for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

For the first time in the history of Canadian fencing, Montreal will be hosting the Montreal Sabre Grand Prix 2020 at the IGA Stadium from January 10 to 12, 2020, organized by the Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF) and the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
