On April 17 there was a confrontation in El Plateado village, in Algeria -Cauca.

At least 15 guerrillas and one soldier have died this Saturday in clashes between members of the Carlos Patiño Column, dissidents from the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), and the Army in Algeria, Cauca department, in southwestern Colombia according to the last official balance.
“In military operations, 15 people were neutralized” in the municipality of Algeria, Cauca department, Colombian Defense Minister Diego Molano reported in a public ceremony.
At first, it was the Army Commander, General Eduardo Enrique Zapateiro, who reported the death of ten guerrillas and a noncommissioned officer through a message posted on Twitter.
“Units of the Army’s third division report fighting in Silver Plated, Algeria, Cauca. Ten members of the GAO-r Carlos Patiño were neutralized,” he said. The deceased soldier was an Army noncommissioned officer, in addition to seven other wounded soldiers. An Air Force aircraft was also affected.
The confrontation began this Saturday morning in the El Plateado sector in Algeria between members of the Army’s Third Division and members of the FARC’s Carlos Patiño dissidence.
“Continuing with the development of the operation, the troops received an alleged member of the aforementioned criminal structure, who will be brought to justice. Likewise, during the area search, until now a machine gun, long and short weapons have been seized” , has reported Zapateiro, according to the newspaper ‘El Espectador’. The local portal Ultima Hora Cauca has indicated that the fighting began around 5.30 in the morning.
Social leader Walter Aldana, participant in the Comprehensive Program for the Substitution of Illicit Crops (PNIS), reported on March 29 that the region is plunged into a state of terror, due to the confrontation between the Carlos Patiño Column, the Army guerrilla of National Liberation and the Army itself. Illegal armed groups seek to gain control of drug trafficking routes.
“What exists today in the department of Cauca is the presence of eight or ten illegal armed groups that in the territories manage an exercise of power and dominion. They fight that territorial dominion among themselves. But who is in time That is, it is the authority in the territory. We have for more than a year, since before the pandemic, a curfew from 7 at night, “said Aldana.
In that same region, on March 26, an attack was perpetrated with car bomb against the Corinto Mayor’s Office that left 43 injured, of which eleven are public officials.
