The Ministry of Defense confirmed the death of eight Venezuelan military personnel in combat, after last Monday the 26th that agency reported on the death of several officials in the clashes with Colombian irregular groups in the border state of Apure (south) .
“The General in Chief, Vladimir Padrino López, Minister of Defense, on behalf of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), joins the mourning for the unfortunate death in combat of these citizens,” says the message published on the web portal of the Ministry of Defense “.
The names of the deceased soldiers were published in an obituary, among which are: Naiwil José Torres Moreno, Santiago del Jesús Reyes Farfán, Ronal José Marcano Castillo, Wilmer de Jesús Ferrobús Garabito, Andy José Miranda, Álvaro Rafael Nariño Ostos, Michael Miguel Medina Sequera and Luis David Lira Negrón.
The FANB announced on Monday the 26th that fighting continues with Colombian armed groups in the west of La Victoria, in Apure state.
The military body also detailed that they gave a significant number of casualties to members of the groups, as well as that they achieved the destruction of temporary facilities that they intended to use for criminal activities
The FANB warned that they will intensify military operations that allow the neutralization of armed groups, and achieve their expulsion from Venezuelan territory.
Since last March 21, a confrontational situation between the FANB and irregular groups from the neighboring country has been experienced in the south of the Apure state, bordering Colombia.
The Government of Venezuela has denounced that Colombian irregular groups have placed antipersonnel mines in the border area, after two military vehicles and a car of electricity workers were victims of explosives.
For this reason, the authorities of the Caribbean country have asked the United Nations (UN) for support to deactivate the anti-personnel mines that the irregular groups left in their territory.
